About the event

The talk will take a brief look at how Whitehead’s ideas have fared in the seventy or so years since his death, and then look at his contemporary significance.  It will be suggested that it is,  oddly,  marginal but crucial at the same time.  Marginal because his obscure terminology is a barrier to understanding his position, but crucial because he seems to have anticipated some contemporary developments in sciences and in the wider cultural arena.  These developments have implications for the serious ecological problems we face.
